UFC on FOX 13 fight card: Jussier Formiga vs John Moraga on tap for Phoenix Flyweight fracas

UFC on FOX 13, which will emanate from U.S. Airways Center in Phoenix, Ariz., on Dec. 13, 2014, is, literally, a top-heavy mixed martial arts (MMA) event with three marquee Heavyweight match ups pegged for main card action.

There's just enough room for a talented pair of top-ranked Flyweight contenders, though, as @UFCEspanol announced tonight that Jussier Formiga (No. 4) will collide with former 125-pound title challenger, John Moraga (No. 5).

Formiga is in the midst of a two-fight win streak, earning a unanimous decision over Zach Makovsky his last time out at UFC Fight Night 47 and, prior to that, submitting Scott Jorgensen with a rear-naked choke at UFC Fight Night 38 in March of this year.

Will three straight earn him a shot at division champion Demetrious Johnson? He'd certainly have a nice case on his hands moving into 2015.

Moraga, meanwhile, lost his championship opportunity courtesy of a "Mighty Mouse" armbar back at UFC on FOX 8 in July 2013. He has since won two of his three most recent matches, stopping Justin Scoggins via submission (guillotine choke) earlier this month, getting stopped by John Dodson at UFC Fight Night 42 and earning a split decision over Dustin Ortiz to kickoff his 2014 campaign.

Should be a fun one.

UFC on FOX 13 features a trio of meaningful Heavyweight showdowns planned, including Junior Dos Santos vs. Stipe Miocic, Alistair Overeem vs. Stefan Struve and Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Matt Mitrione, as well as a Welterweight redemption match between Joe Riggs vs. Ben Saunders, among others.
