Jose Aldo evaluates UFC roster: 'If you talk about skills, I'm the best in the world'

Don't let the official Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) rankings (see them here) fool you. Jose Aldo, not Jon Jones, is the best mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter in the world.

That's the opinion the current UFC featherweight champion gave to AG Fight (via Bloody Elbow), when asked who he believed is the current best fighter in the game today.

Though he isn't necessarily bothered by his No. 2 spot on the pound-for-pound rankings behind "Bones" (see why here), "Junior" believes when comparing skills, he's a cut above the rest.

"If you talk about skills, I feel that I'm the best in the world. But it doesn't mean that I think that I'm invincible and I'm still working to keep being a champion. If I'm the number one or I'm not, this is up to the fans and the media, though I have my opinion. The important thing is that I'm still evolving as a fighter and I have a lot to improve."

UFC President Dana White would give Aldo his vote as the pound-for-pound best, he just has to start letting his fists fly like he used to do back in the day. Still, despite White's criticism, Aldo has been on a roll to the tune of 17-straight wins, which includes six consecutive UFC title defenses.

Hard to argue with those numbers.

Jones, meanwhile, currently sits atop the list and boasts some impressive numbers of his own, which includes eight consecutive title defenses at light heavyweight to go along with 11 straight wins inside the Octagon. But are Jon's numbers, and more importantly, his skills, better than those of Aldo's? The Brazilian bomber doesn't think so.
