2015 Bentley Mulsanne Speed Has 811 LB-FT of Torque

Bentley just revealed its newest product ahead of the Paris Motor Show with a staggering 811 lb-ft of torque because… well, it’s basically a log on wheels.

You see, normally when measures of twist in the upper reaches of the hundreds mark reach our pages, it’s in conjunction with some sort of heaving heavy-duty truck built with the likes of Paul Bunyan in mind. But if logging were as lucrative back then as it is today, Paul might have spent two bits on a shave and a haircut before getting into one of these: the 2015 Bentley Mulsanne Speed. Believe it or not, it makes more torque than a Chevrolet Silverado 3500 HD, 46 lb-ft more to be exact.

Normally, Bentley’s flagship sedan makes 505 hp, but in this case it’s been tuned to push out 530 and again, 811 lb-ft of torque. The second figure reaches its peak at only 1,750 RPM from its 6.75-liter V8. Considering it weighs almost 6,000 lbs, the absurdly powerful engine almost seems like a necessity.

Horsepower and torque increases come courtesy of revisions to the valve timing and turbochargers that both go toward making the combustion cycle more efficient. Bentley also revised the eight-speed automatic transmission and added an “S” mode that keeps the car in peak boost while activated. There is also a “sport” mode that stiffens the air suspension and is supposed to give the steering more feedback and accuracy.

With all that force, it can hit 60 MPH in 4.8 seconds before climbing to a top speed of 190 MPH assuming you find an appropriate setting with plenty of distance remaining to kill that inertia. Oh, and it’s also 13 percent more efficient than before if measured by emissions, with a claimed fuel economy score of 12 mpg in the city, 19 mpg on the highway or 14 mpg combined. Of course, the car is still able to make use of cylinder deactivation to alternate between firing on a V8 and V4 cylinder configuration.

There isn’t very much to set the Mulsanne Speed apart from its less powerful sibling. Pieces of its grille are darker and it gets a different wheel pattern along with “Speed” badges. The interior gets special piano black and carbon fiber inlays as well, but there isn’t much else to distinguish it.

Bentley didn’t announce pricing for the more exclusive Muslanne, but it plans to begin delivering the model to dealers this winter in time for the 2015 model year.
